Team USA's Alysa Liu brought her best in Thursday's free skate at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics and earned America's first gold medal in women's figure skating in 24 years.

The final gold medal of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Figure Skating will be handed out Thursday as Americans Alysa Liu, Amber Glenn, and Isabeau Levito look to halt the momentum of Japanese skaters Ami Nakai and Kaori Sakamoto,

Nakai landed her opening triple axel, the most difficult triple jump in the sport. She and American skater Amber Glenn were the only two skaters to attempt it. But she did just a double toe loop instead of a triple on her triple lutz, triple toe loop combination — a costly error.

Liu also won gold in the team event at on Feb. 8 at the Milan Games

The Women's Figure Skating Free Skate will be the final figure skating event of the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics and it takes place on Thursday, Feb. 19.
